SkySpecs envisions a world where wind energy is the most affordable form of electricity and therefore ubiquitous around the world. SkySpecs is helping to make this possible by automating the operations and maintenance of wind farms using advanced robotics paired with our custom-built asset performance management software, Horizon.

SkySpecs launched the world’s first completely autonomous blade inspection product in 2016 with a custom designed drone system. Since then, SkySpecs has inspected over 25,000 wind turbines in over 15+ countries, becoming the world leader in understanding the health of turbine blades. Identifying issues with turbine blades is only the first step. In 2019 SkySpecs launched Horizon to be a platform for SkySpecs to offer a multi-layered solution for customers that includes: data collection, wind turbine blade engineering expertise, and a place for all stakeholders to collaborate to manage and analyze massive amounts of data, spot trends, and create plans for high-cost repair campaigns. Ultimately, this will help reduce the cost and risk of operations for the industry.


SkySpecs is seeking a Robotics Autonomy Engineer that will develop software that allows autonomous systems to collect and assess diagnostic information about wind turbine blades. You will initially be developing software for an autonomous drone equipped with a computer, LiDAR, inertial sensors, GPS, cameras, actuators, and other sensors as-needed. The ideal candidate for this position has deep knowledge and experience in autonomous systems across a depth of disciplines including navigation, perception, mapping, planning, and control. Applicants for this position are required to be great team players and will be expected to learn and adapt quickly.


  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years’ relevant research/project/Industry experience (or) Master’s degree and relevant experience
  • Experience developing C/C++ applications
  • Skilled in developing software for compute/memory-constrained real-time systems
  • Experience developing navigation, mapping, state estimation, or control software for autonomous systems
  • Comfortable working in Unix-based environments
  • Familiarity with linear algebra, probability, statistics, kinematics, dynamics, and coordinate transformations
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills


  • Computer vision and machine learning experience
  • Proficiency working with hardware
  • Simultaneous Localization and Mapping with LiDAR experience
  • Experience working with robotic aerial platforms
  • Experience with scripting languages (Julia, Bash, Python, NodeJS, or similar)
  • Experience working with the Amazon Web Services suite of technologies, primarily S3, Lambda, IAM, Cognito
  • Startup experience
